It was cold, but luckily our vet has a good attitude! We preg checked and vaccinated 200 2nd calf heifers that were AI bred yesterday evening. Ended up with 111 that were AI bred. He also could tell 6 others were early bull bred, and found two AI bred that the embryo was dead.
This is all new to me, is that a typical average? So when planning in the future, do i need to basically double the cost per straw to get an accurate number to help compare AI expense to natural breeding?
From what I've been told your breeding percentage AI is in the ball park.
With a terrific TM package you can get it higher.
AI breeding isn't necessarily cheap but can be very cost effective. |
