The NWS forecast for here tonight:

Flurries before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -16 F. Wind chill values as low as -35 F. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Many of you here with livestock in the northern plains and midwest have even lower wind chills coming. But with temps and winds like this does lower really matter. The wind is the real problem.
This afternoon I unrolled some good hay along the woods, the cows and heifers look ok so far.
Hope you all keep warm and your livestock make it through.

As we get older Jim I remember being 5 years old in 1964 riding with Dad to the north place-1 mile north of the home farm to feed Herefords with the oliver1800 tractor and kelly ryan feed wagon-It was the warmest place on the right side tuck in around the brakes and heat houser with a windshield-I knew it was really cold when dad wore two coveralls and mittens with a flapper hat-getting over the big hill and then seeing 200 head of Hereford steers stampeding to the wood feed bunks out on the hill-somehow they knew to come running -
oddly 1964 we had record low of -16 on Jan 13th that year

No place was as warm as standing next to Dad in the Hinson heathouser on the brake side! We put bedding out tonight to every calf we have on hand, some of the western calves were dancing as the shredder blew bedding into the buildings
