Fontanelle, IA | There is a lag-lead time involved in starting your own free range flock of chicks in the middle of winter from areas north of I-80 to the tundra of Minnesota in order to get them into egg laying status.
Grandma always said that hens were to NEVER have their feet touch snow or they’d quit laying. I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have done when it came to her chicken advice though….. so I guess I’ll be brooming off my fields for a while.
