It could be that I could keep desktop because I hadn't canceled it. I subscribed to the online but did not cancel desktop because I wanted to see if I liked desktop. But, I found this that supports this;

QuickBooks Desktop isn't available to new subscribers in the United States. The deadline to purchase a new subscription was September 30, 2024.

When I called to cancel online I was told by the Intuit representative that I could continue subscribing to desktop and get updates in the future. My son uses QB 2017 and it will continue to work indefinitely but, will not ever receive updates. If you have QB 2022 I was told that without updates you could no longer access your old data. 

My accountant thinks that Intuit will relent on the desktop version because nobody likes the online version. One of his complaints is you can not have but one screen open at a time. There is no box at the upper left corner that toggles between screens.
