Fair question Dave. I think a lot of people are under the impression that there are thousands of able bodied and talented people out there sitting on their butt, not working, and collecting welfare. While that is most certainly true to some extent, magically transforming those people into a willing and reliable workforce is much easier said than done. While food and shelter is a strong incentive to get people to go to work I think we need to be realistic about the condition and ability of the welfare crowd. Certainly there are able bodied people out there sitting on their duff and living off of the government to a large degree. Unfortunately there are probably ten times that amount that are morbidly obese, addicted to drugs and alcohol, or suffer from any number of medical maladies. That doesn't scream reliable workforce to me. The immigrants both legal and illegal have been picking up the slack for the people that can't or won't work. I am in favor of deporting those who are here illegally and not working. I am also in favor of deporting those who are here legally but have committed serious crimes. Beyond that I think we need an immigrant workforce or businesses will suffer greatly.
You know what you’re talking about!!!
Many unemployable, few of those could be employable but most are just barely able to figure out minimal tasks… |
