This is a great explanation of maternal/terminal genetics. The ability to observe and understand how all these pieces fit together has mostly been lost.

This has gone on in not only genetics, but most areas of cattle production. Timing calving and breeding with peak forage production rather than throwing money at feeding equipment and supplements. There are reasons we have the smallest cow herd in 72 years. Too much money invested in genetics that don't address the basics of ROI. There was a speaker a couple of years ago at a BIF Conference that had just spent time observing feedlots. He was amazed at the number of heiferettes on feed and made the observation that there is a serious fertility problem.
