RR Valley, ND; MN native | I don't know the 2 sons I will mention so maybe they have no lightbulb skills...
Former coworker from 1994 I keep tabs on. Has 3 kids 18-24. Oldest 2 have mechanical engineering degrees. One has a job with a defense contractor working on submarines. 2nd just starting job with air force research lab.
But, the parents are probably more involved than many. Guy I knew has a MS in engineering, has worked for standby generator companies for years. The wife is a lawyer. They would also have the $$ to help pay the kids way through school although I do not know if they did, etc.
On the other hand, I have some relatives with kids now out of the house who are likely to work dead end jobs their whole life. Attitudes from the parents make all the difference.
I installed a couple LED fixtures in my porch when I remodeled it. They are not designed to be repaired, etc so normally if they fail you have to replace the fixture (that is no longer available I am sure). One of them "burned out" after a few months. Being a electronics engineer, I had to open it up. Shorted/fried capacitor in there. I so happened to have the correct replacement part in my parts stashes and was able to fix it and its been working fine ever since. 99+ % of users would not be able to do that. | |
