I had the understanding that a KW was a KW and the power cost is the same whether that is single or 3 phase.
You are correct that u can get by with smaller motors with 3 phase over single phase at the same voltage. But if u were using a vfd that doesn't matter. U can get by with a smaller vfd on 3 phase compared to single phase.
