You get paid for 60k/60 lbs or 1000 bushels. Bushel is not a volume only weight in the grain business. There is nothing that ever changes the 60 divisor. Once again “bushels” have absolutely nothing to do with volume.

Edit: The CBOT could call their trade unit “60lbs” and elevators would pay by you on your net “60lbs”. Bushel is no different nomenclature than a ton. It’s just a unit of weight.


A bushel is NOT a measure of weight, it is a measure of volume. The 56lb. For corn and 60 lb for beans have been adopted as the standard weight of that measure of volume for corn and soybeans.
