So think about this. Many of us have done starter fertilizer trials and have seen zero benefit from it, some of us have used it and like how much better the corn looks early on compared to non starter corn although we don't really see a yield increase. What if the plant is getting that early growth from the readily available starter and then when it runs out of that, it struggles to find fertility because the easy fertilizer wasn't there anymore and then by the time the plant roots grow and find it again. The starter and non starter corn even out and the reason there isn't a yield difference is because you already have plenty of fertility in that field that the extra starter you spent money on wasn't exactly needed and was therefore a waste of inputs?
That makes the most sense of anything I've heard or seen so far. |
