EC SoDak | Math is always debatable on what it costs to run a sprayer, especially during these last few years with equipment prices (new and used) skyrocketing and now used falling like a rock. I run an older Patriot 4430/120’/Aim and figure it costs me a few bucks and acre to run. I do non gmo beans, so owning a sprayer is mandatory, then I do a bit of spot spraying for weeds and grass after post.
With corn, I’ve done conventional corn on my rotated acres for years and then at the beginning for my COC acres. With multiyear drought, grass and CRW have become an issue, so I’m running a cycle of SS/P on rotated acres last year and this year. Having non GMO beans in the mix with conventional corn grass was getting a bit out of hand. I’m running newer genetics but warned all my various seed guys towards the end of summer that I expect really sharp pencils for their proposals and that if the seed cost was at last year or higher, don’t even bother calling. I wouldn't entertain it.
Enough of us around here run conventional corn and non gmo beans that we’ve all probably become better operators because of it. Issues pop up, but mostly when dicamba beans came out and 2-4 beans weren’t available. | |
