Right, a 555 isn't a bad engine if you understand it's limitations. It wasn't an engine to be lugged, but I would rate them better than the 3208 CAT for pulling power. Ran both in Steigers and AC 440's and I prefer the 555 in the 440 for that size tractor. Keep them at 2500-2600 RPM and it pulls very well, and I think fuel efficiency was better on the Cummins.


Now, all these were well used at the point I got to play with them, so maybe in 1977 they were different
