Pedee, Oregon
We replaced a shake roof on a barn in the early 90’s, it had St Helen’s ash under every shake still.

Gutters are also an ignition point in wind blown fire. It was interesting to see demonstrations of various types. PVC gutters sometimes have less risk than metal. Quickly melt or soften and fall off house. Metal stays up with whatever is in it or it what it collects, burning away. Will get fire going even if roof is steel.
