| Green board is NOT the best option for drywall in that location. Green is moisture resistant not proof. Purple drywall is MORE resistant.
But i wouldnt use that either there. I would use 1/2” cement board all over in a bath. Their is also tile backer board thats better suited. I am not sure what its trade name is but it is light yellow on one side and grey on the other and comes in 3x5’ sheets. It has some fiberglass in it.
Tile placed close to shower edge is more resistant to water and a minimum of grout lines to mold and mildew is helpful but the walls have to be plumb and square for LARGE tile.
You HAVE to stay on point with maintance to keep it dry and sound
Plastic (poly), cement board and red guard would be my first choice of materials in a tough place as this is.
Best thing would be to teach users HOW to get shower curtain to stick and seal to shower walls so it doesnt leak,,,,period. Wet hand down wet shower wall pressing curtain and it will cling like a static filled ladies skirt | |
