NW Missouri | If you care more about cost than flashiness, just keep an eye on the online auctions till you get sort of an idea of the market and then wait for one that's a little undervalued or one you like the looks of or whatever. Remember, you only have to go bring it home once, so don't let location play too big a factor.
30 years ago, Dad had a trucking business and ran mostly Petes to try to attract and keep good drivers. Now we just haul our own stuff and get along good with Volvos. We currently have 3 of them - two were less than $10k and the last one was under $20k. They aren't perfect, but have been pretty darn reliable. The D16 with I-shift is my favorite over the D13s with 10 speeds. I also would not want a daycab or super singles, but that's just me.
