I think on poorer soils, it can pay. Having said that, I don’t know if in furrow is better or worse than 2x2 in the same instance. I think guys around here like it for adding micros versus broadcasting. It’s kinda like sex. It’s all been tried, but most folks just have a routine that they like that gets the job done.
