Last summer my daughter and I went thru Menomonee so stopped for a sandwich in a bar across from the collage, finished eating service was OK, food was a solid 6.5 out of 10 for quality and quantity, server brought bill in fancy little black folder, I put a bill in it, server took it and brought back the paper change, no coins, they just kept it. I usually tip about 20% or more if the bill is not big so had the tip laying there, I saw that and took a dollar off the tip pile and walked out. Happened again in October, met 2 daughters at school went out for lunch, same scenario but better food, same thing happened. Is this somehow now OK and generally an approved practice? I believe in both cases if the change one had rounded to the nearest dollar the bill should have went down not up.
I expect the correct change to be made and come back to me. If not then I'll ask about the rest of the change and the tip will suffer greatly.
Local steak chain restaurant tried that stunt of not making the correct change a couple times a few years ago. Apparently I wasn't the only one pushing back against it because it only happened twice and not again.
