SOIL | If you have a good RTK guidance system in your tractor, that will help keep your rows straight and even width. However, I've never been able to miss the guess row and be able to combine it without stalks leaning on hilly ground, even with AutoPath.
Years ago, we planted corn with a 16 row, then bought a 12 row corn head. Within one year, we had a 24 row planter because the knocked over corn was so bad. We had SF2 GPS corrections at the time.
Even lately, we hired a custom operator to plant some of our corn. He planted with a 16 row planter, we thought he was going to use his 12 row planter. At least he had RTK, so the pushed corn was minimal.
The only way I've ever been able to harvest without pushing any stalks over is to plant with a 24 row and harvest with a 12 row.
If I were in your boots, I would double down on finding a different planter by April, especially if you have a fair number of acres. You can always get a little older planter this year with the OEM meters, and get a Precision Upgrade Kit from Deere, Ag Leader, Precision Planting or whoever next year if that's what you want.
