SOIL | Hokey puck GPS will work in a pinch, but it will produce some pretty ugly maps. It will also throw your numbers off if it thinks you're jumping ahead or backwards. I've had to use a puck once many years ago when my Deere system went down.
I take it you're not using any guidance on the tractor. What you could do is buy a John Deere iTC receiver for under $100, get the harness from your PP dealer, set the receiver up one time to output the NMEA messages using someone else's tractor and it should serve you well. iTC receivers still work for WAAS, but they're so cheap because a Deere system won't Auto Steer with them any more and so nobody wants them. | |
