In 1981 I took a computer programming class at Lincoln Trail College as a HS soph. We went on a field trip to a grocery store in Robinson that had implemented scanning the bar code and it was directly tied to their inventory so it could track and inform buyer what needed to be reordered. Very neat concept for the time. We programmed with punch cards and I really sucked at it.
