$9/ dozen eggs is going to encourage a lot of backyard chicken flocks.  And that is probably not going to help the avian Influenza situation.

In my opinion.

Locally, one of the convenience stores has eggs with a price listed as $6.99/ dozen.  I say "price listed", and not "selling price" , as I don't know how many dozen they are selling at the price. Anyone who is price conscious can find eggs locally for less than that.

This is southern PA.

Millions of geese and ducks moving to and fro with the annual migration patterns, along with every other bird out there moving farm to farm are going to keep spreading this disease until:

1) We get complete immunity in our wild populations allowing these viruses to naturally die out, which has about a zero percent chance of happening
2) We breed for immunity in our nearly single line genetics megafarm layers, probably losing efficiency and economics

This has been going on since almost the mid 50's and the problem only seems to be getting worse in our domesticated flocks , while there seems to be little shortage of wild fowl.
