Idaho | Having worked many years in the School Bus Industry and going through the Carpenter Bus issues I find the present issues with Lion quite discouraging. From what I can read it seems like poor quality control maybe a major issue. Water leaks around the windshield seem to be player with many of the issues they are having. Now they have layed off 400 of their work force leaving 300 behind. Which leads me to wonder how they are going handle warranty issues. Sounds like Carpenter all over.
It appears the state of Maine is less than happy with the fleet of units they are trying to run in 8 districts.
"These school buses, however, have been the stuff of nightmares since their original dispatch in 2023. Even preliminary inspections by the Maine State Police Vehicle Inspection Unit revealed "loose body rivets, an inoperative drivers' auxiliary fan, a power steering hose rubbing on a bracket and a rear emergency door check that did not work properly." Once the buses were out and in use, bus drivers promptly raised concerns about loose, "malfunctioning" windshields. Some buses were returned to the manufacturer for review and repair. A bus that appeared to be past saving was sent to Louisiana for an "autopsy." And in their place? Diesel buses were rented." https://www.yahoo.com/news/editorial-failure-lion-electric-school-091100195.html#mce_temp_url#
And guess who is paying for all this. Taxpayers of course.
