We use one card for business and one for personal, and pay them off each month, but New York now allows businesses to charge an extra 3 percent if you pay with a card. It used to be routine to pay with a card, but more and more we are using cash for small purchases.
Virginia allows it now, too. It boils down tom who is going to pay the CC company fee, you or the business. It is in the company's best interest to accept the CC instead of a check. With a bad check, the company has to try to get the money, if a CC card is used, The CC company has to worry about being paid. We had an auto shop here that went out of business because the guy would not take credit cards and trusted everyone to pay up. His lot was full of cares that the work had not been paid for and, being a one man shop, he did not have the time to file mechanic's liens on them. He did not even get parts money up front. Very poor business plan. |
