If you refuse using control by wire, I guess you don't fly commercial. 
Up until now, many fully electrical control systems have been hampered by the limitations of only using 12V motors. Too much current required at that voltage to make any amount of real power. 
When you increase the voltage to 48, or 400, or 800, then things get simpler and more reliable, as a consequence. Ancient history, but Nikola Tesla won this argument with Edison, a long time ago. It wasn't so much the AC vs. DC deal, but more because the use of AC made stepping voltages up and down, much easier. Now, we can step DC up and down with little effort and loss, so once again, things are changing.
