You are right that the liver processes fructose. The same pathway as alcohol. That is contested by no one that actually has any education on the subject.
Excess alcohol will cause fatty liver disease. Excessive fructose will do the same. That is why small 10 or 12 year old fat kids are getting NAFLD (likely too much soda pop and sugar). Used to be only alcoholics got FDL. Now it is rampant and it is so common some doctors don't even tell patients they have it according to Berry.
