| Sucks but that is how people are
I would ask to be paid for the tillage and inputs explaining that it was implied you would have it
Some conversation on the history of your renting it and the relationship you had with their mother. NOT over the top but just a little reflective conversation
Most likely the son was approached by the next renter who tossed out a higher number and maybe some short comings of your farming. Maybe newer shinny equipment to boot
Off farm people have NO idea on what it takes.
I was in a similar situation. BTO all shinny equipment worked the farm in hours vs me taking days
Couple years later I get it back. BTO was late on payments. Wanted to pay less than verbally agreed as “weather was tough” didn’t get what they thought. Blah blah blah
The kids in my situation knew I paid what we agreed to, on time. Yes I was not as fast but I did my best and the farm looked good when driving by
I am hopeful I will have the farm until I am done or if it comes up for sale I will at least be considered
Best of luck. Next few years could see lots of changes
I don’t know others financials but budget numbers show it will be tighter than it has been
