SE SD | CMN - 1/5/2025 14:13 The first "real" gun I bought with my own money (an Ithaca single shot lever action .22lr) I ordered from the JCPenny catalog. I picked the gun up myself from the catalog order pickup counter at the JCPenny store after an orthodontist appointment as my mother was shopping for material and sewing supplies. I had a note on file at the Gambles hardware store in town from my parents to buy .22lr and 20 gauge. That way I could ride my bike into town to cash my paycheck and buy ammo if they didn't have time to drive me....times sure have changed since the mid 70s. Believe I have the same drop block. Got it for Christmas when I was 10. A lot of rabbits, squirrels and pheasants fell into the pot courtesy of that little rifle. Yes I said pheasants. In my younger years knew nothing of seasons nor the differance between a rooster and a hen :) they all tasted the same. Ground swatting was fair....in my world :) Edit to add: now I just collect. Have a soft spot for crack shots....and all those little 22s. Just picked up little Henry at a gun show.
