My wife watches NBC in the morning, both the local and national. They've been running interviews with bar owners and liquor store owners lamenting the fall off in sales as Dry January continues. They've spent an inordinate amount of time on this and some of these places are trying to incorporate non-alcoholic drinks to appeal to younger people. Meanwhile as the government finally admits alcohol is one of the prime cause's of cancer and requires a worthless warning label the media just passingly mentions it, if at all. I think an equal amount of conversation with oncology doctors and family members who've lost drinking loved ones to cancer would be appropriate. We recently lost a friend who couldn't have a meal without his beer. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and refused to quit drinking, even after being advised to do so. Chemo, radiation and surgery work for some but you have to make an effort to avoid things that contribute. At almost the same time a relative had the same cancer and is recovering. Different life style and different part of the country but makes every effort to do what he considers best for his health. |
