Chebanse, IL..... | We started with 16 row 2510H about 12 (?) yrs ago. Then switched to a 24r 2510H about 8 yrs ago. We sidedress most % of our corn acres w/NH3, though some is done with a liquid applicator. The 2510H has become a very dependable tool. BTW, we started sidedressing NH3 probably 50+ yrs ago.
You can see the video we made a couple of years ago. The PitStop Pro is something I would not ever give up...EVER. I can sd all day long and never have to get out of the cab to hook up. Same with family members that haul tanks. We have the same hitch on the pickup truck. They do have to get out of pickup and either detach safety chains & light wires, or attach them depending. The person hauling the tank also turns on the tank valve so it's ready to go when I hook. But, very few people run with a Pit Stop Pro. It does take dedicated tanks. I realize you didn't ask about that either, but it's part of what we like about our bar. Keep in mind, it's a JD item. That usually leads to quite a discussion.
Depth is typically about 5 in. We are 100% conventional tillage, so sometimes at sidedress time (V4-5) our ground is quite soft and we choose to run the JD skis on some rows to keep depth wheels from plowing. I run between 8-9 mph at all times. If the ground is hard, it may take some h.p. to pull it at 9 mph speeds. Our 24r came from the factory (we bought it used however) with the down pressure being manually controlled from the bar, split into left & right halves of the bar. That wasn't a good setup because of the wheel tracks behind the tractor. So, we reconfigured the hydraulics on the bar so we could control the center section, and then the remainder is controlled as the outer section. I believe later model bars came configured as middle/outer also. Not 100% sure on that, but I do know that you DO want it split center/wings.
We also added the JD TouchSet so that I control the down pressure, on the roll, from the cab via JD monitor. Works great. We've also made some other modifications through the years. Run spoked wheels now from Shoup. I've got a grease bank ready to mount when we get it in the shop this spring. Greasing hubs/openers under the center frame can be no fun. For those that were in the Army, think "low crawl". There is tight quarters between the opener and the NH3 tube where the rubber supply hose attaches to the steel tube going into the ground. Depending on conditions, the opener can rub on the rubber hose & wear a hole in it after a while. It might happen 2x per year, sometimes less. I have started to add brackets & fixtures to the unit arms so that I only have to replace a short section of hose & not keep pulling hose down the frame to get slack. Cut the old short piece of hose off, install new short piece and roll again.
The final thing I'd like to see for the 2510H is individual row down pressure. A company started to make/mfg these a few years back, but never followed through for whatever reason. That would make it a perfect unit in my mind. I wish someone would develop and market them.
Here is a YouTube I made a few years ago#mce_temp_url#, mostly showing our PitStop Pro, but you can also see the bar run. My email is in my profile, as always. I will try & help if you have questions. |
