Subject: RE: Christmas Sweets Traditions Gone?

reading all these posts made me sad......what have we become ?
I remember when I was a kid, christmas was like "a magic time"......
Everyone made all those wonderful candy, desserts, and the like.....
people were kind, people did there best to get along.
Things were simple (bag of a big orange and apple, some in the shell peanuts that were salted, some wrapped candy, and some of the hard candy had some of salt that rubbed off on them, and made them even better)...we had simple lights, they had so much color, none of this moving objects and etc.....
looking back.......it indeed was a magic time.....
today....sell sell sell.....nobody cooks (either costs too much, cant get the stuff, everyone is working because nowdays both parents almost need to work to keep things going), and now we are told so many things are bad.
Yes, I have serious health conditions, and heading twards a organ transplant, but, it will not stop me from enjoying.....do I have to eat like a hog, no, but having a small sample is ok....that comes down from my doctors that write in the medical journals.
When I was on community board, I used to make up the christmas sacks......now they don't do them......I was told they were stupid....excuse me !!
These kids nowdays will not have a clue of thins when they get to middle age......they have no basis or traditions......now, one of the movies they must play at christmas is the one where ralph freezes this tounge to a pole.....and a womens leg with fishnet stockings as a lamp post.......no wonder peoples minds are worped......
I still get a warm feeling when I watch (in black and white), bells of st mary's, or its a wonderful life, and others.....or what about white chritmas ?
yes, I got a bb gun for christmas, and both eyes are still intact
today, we have nothing to hold onto....the kids watch crap....and it's not the kids fault.........it's the parents !!!!!
when todays kids get in their 60's....how will they remember christmas ?
most dont go to church anymore....christmas eve services are now at 5 pm........the christmas stories or movies on tv are just nuts.....everything is bought....

but........rather than saying boo hoo......maybe we need to do something about it......start to have things in the community that are old fashioned...if the go go crowd say no, maybe we should tell them to go to $%@!......we need to have events in church......and the pastor will be told when the christmas service is, not vise versa.
it's up to us.......being the elder and wiser group, we need to take action........no just be in the recliner, or go to walmart and buy some premade stuff....
maybe we need to have classes how to make the good ole stuff.......

boy am i getting hungry for one of those deserts that you made with crushed pretzels, red jello, cool whip and some cream cheese......

lets start making plans now, to make the next christmas comming, more like it should be !!!!

maybe get the church behind it, for a couple weeks, we have cookie/candy kitchens......where the "more expericed" ladys help teach these young people how to make all the old standards.......and then maybe have an open house, where you could sample, have copies of recipies, and have a movie for the kids (maybe even more the big kids) from all the old good christmas movies......maybe have a community christmas party, have the movies, singing....food, the candy, the pies, all the good stuff, maybe santa could show up,
and everyone goes home with a sack with an apple, orange, peanuts, and candy.....

remember, we are the leaders and the teachers........if the train is going off the tracks.....its our fault.

may god bless
