Subject: RE: Christmas Sweets Traditions Gone?

Windom, MN
I'm lucky enough to have my mother still here and baking for Christmas.

My favorites are Swedish Cream wafers and fudge with walnuts in it. She also makes all kinds of different things like frosted sugar cookies and almond bark pretzels, but it's definitely less than what she used to make. the ones I remember that don't get made anymore are the mini pecan pies and russian tea cakes/mexican wedding cakes.

Mounds Balls and peanut brittle recipes have been passed down to me from my grandmas (RIP). I didn't get them made this year, too much going on in life to do it, plus not having all those sweets in the house helps the health. The peanut brittle is super easy, but I seem to burn it now because its a microwave recipe that uses times from 40 years ago when the microwave ovens weren't as powerful. I've played with the timing through the years but it seems I can't hit the right amount. Not enough time and it's sticky, too much and its burnt.

Divinity is a PIA to make. Mom used to make it but she says you need a super strong arm for all the stirring. She tried to use a mixer once and it burnt out.
