SCNE | I don't have very good things to say about Farmers Mutual. They were insuring our church for years with no claims. Had a hail event and needed a new roof and vinyl siding on 2 sides. Paid the claim ... poorly, I might add and that was after some squawking. They immediately dropped our church when the policy expired. Talking to other people who have had them, they are taking the position of other poor insurance companies and that is to deny all claims, put up as much fight as they can and hope the insured gives up, and if they do end up paying a claim they immediately drop the insured. Their actuaries/underwriters must not have done well in statistics classes in college, after a claim event the likelihood of another event is quite low. I would think they would keep the insured on to collect premiums to cover what they just paid.
I agree with other poster, biggest scam industry going. And if you can do without insurance on anything, do it. On small to moderate losses you can negotiate cost of repair to be less than if you had insurance and paying the deductible. Prices get jacked up just for having to deal with the insurance company, better to ask for the "I'm paying cash" price.
My father used to say "if you insure not to lose a dime, you won't have a dime to lose."
