West Kentucky
We have VR'd beans for at least 10 years now. We base all prescriptions based on corn yield maps because they are a better indication of good ground vs stress ground for us. If maps are based on bean yields, they will look basically the same as corn just not quite as consistent. We have not found any other things such as soil type maps, om maps, fertility maps, slope maps, etc that seem to correlate closely to yield or seeding rate on beans or corn. I have tightened our ranges some over the years and don't do nearly as many zones as I used to. We got our beans rates too low on good ground a few years ago and our yields on our best ground reflected it. Test blocks can be very valuable. We have raised populations back up on our best ground and yields are reflecting it. Almost all of our beans are double cropped so our rates don't much matter for you.
