Subject: RE: how to trick a kinze hyd drive into being able to split planter hybrids

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Maybe it was an oversight on Ag Leader's part. Maybe they just figured that anyone who would go with hydraulic drive would use at least two drives.

I do remember when split planter was first an option. Suppose you had it setup for split planter in two halves. You would choose the variety for the left half. You would then choose the variety for the right half but it had to be DIFFERENT. You couldn't run with the same variety on both "halves". I mentioned this at an Ag Leader school. Ag Leader's reply was well just use a single variety configuration for those fields.

Someone asked how to handle a situation where part of the field was planted with two different varieties so a split planter configuration would be used but then to finish the field where both sides might be the same variety. Ag Leader said "just switch to a single variety configuration to finish the field". Someone then mentioned that the field would then have two separate maps and auto swath would not work as desired.

They didn't have an answer for that and said it seemed unlikely to come up. Many of us disagreed. I think that was just an oversight.

The workaround was to use two similar but slightly different names when the varieties were the same on both sides. Example: Start with Variety "X" on the left and Variety "Y" on the right. When you run out of Variety "Y" and want to finish the field with Variety "X" on both sides, name the Variety on the right as "X1" or something similar. Later when you analyze the maps you would know that Variety "X" and Variety "X1" are actually the same variety.

Later that conflict was resolved with a firmware update and it now possible to use the same variety on both sides. The operator could use a split planter configuration in either situation. If both sides are going to be the same, the same variety is chosen for each. If both sides are always the same variety then a configuration that is not split planter might as well be used.
