NW Iowa | My side by side is not a big one, Polaris 500. I have pulled an old Deere basket hay rake with it but the rattling of the rake tongue on the hitch and the back and forth side to side pull on the hitch had me wishing I would have hitched the rake to a small tractor. And I have pulled a two section drag to work in grass seed.
The engine is high horsepower per cubic inch, made for short full throttle sprints. Pulling a load for long would not make it happy. Another negative is those little engines get HOT! This fall I had this side by side on fire with burning corn leaves that blew in around that engine that is just inches above the ground. I was pulling the hay rake raking up a few stalks. By luck I had a couple of bottles of water along to put out the fire but it did melt the liner in the shifter cable. Then I had to run home to get the disk to put out the burning corn stubble. Whew! There will be no more of that happening! | |
