Lots of good comments in this thread.

I am a dairy farmer and I drink raw milk from my own tank, but I don't recommend the average consumer should. As stated by many, because of my exposure I have immunity to many things that the average person does not. I am not going to promote something that could harm someone.

However, I will promote milk that is LOW temperature pasteurized. High temperature pasteurization is done because it is faster, not because it is better. Low temperature pasteurization makes milk taste better (than High temp) and retains most of the goodies that the raw milk people are looking for without any of the dangers of raw milk.

Low temperature pasteurization is promoted by most of the direct to consumer farm bottlers. They have the time to do low temp and can charge a slight premium. It is worth it!

These farm bottlers also tend to promote non-homogenized milk. The cream rises to the top and you will need to shake it before use.... unless you like to skim the cream to use on your cereal or coffee. You are also likely to get more cream from the milk from these farms because it doesn't need to be "standardized" to 3.5% butterfat. The national average butterfat is now around 4.1% and that is where the extra flavor comes from. There is no flavor in skim milk and very little flavor in 2%. The cream gives you a full and satisfied feeling that keeps you from overeating and several studies showed that full fat milk actually helps with weight loss because of this.

Low temp pasteurized milk with full un-homogenized fat gives you all the benefits of raw milk without the risk. And it is available in most areas. You just need to seek it out. There are several dairies on my side of Ohio that offer it. Several have delivery routes that can bring it right to your door a couple times a week. You just need to seek it out. Here is the one that is closest to me: https://www.bakersgoldendairy.com/
