Subject: RE: Raw Milk, what am I missing?

Faunsdale, AL
The small/local aspect of most raw milk sales usually keeps problems under the radar of regulatory and public health officials. So instead of there being a million pounds of ground beef recalled, a kid goes into the hospital for IV fluids. If there’s not two that show up at the same time so the doctors can put two and two together and realize that both of them probably got sick from the same source, it probably never goes farther than that.

Even if somebody really gets a bee in their bonnet and decides they’re going to save the world from raw milk, there’s not really much that can be done unless the producer is also selling grade A milk. If they are, regulations are normally written to prevent any raw milk sales to individuals. Coops and companies that are contracting to buy milk from Grade A permitted dairies usually want to prevent any exposure they may have to legal actions and they’ll put a stop to the sales on the side.
