I’m in need of a new starter for 2 farm tractors
a late model Deere 4020 and a Deere 4450
Are gear reduction starters the way to go ?
Night & Day Difference over stock ?
Where to buy ?
Neighbor say there are chinese knockoff’s out there beware of Junk ?

Local starter shop is not that enthused about gear reduction starters. They would prefer to supply an appropriately sized direct drive starter, just less to go wrong. Had one tractor that we changed to an uprated direct drive starter that they supplied. Was a huge improvement. There may be applications where the gear reduction starter is the only option for improved starting, as witness the generally positive response to them.

I know this is not the narrative that is popular on NAT.

I would expect most gear reduction starters to be chinese origin.
