You are correct on ramp checks. If  you were based at an airport with a GADO office, then you probably were more subject to checks than someone based on an 1800' grass strip in the middle of nowhere.

Most often I saw them drive to the airports & check ramp activity.

Do you know of anyone that's been ramp-checked flying license-demanding drones? I don't.
