Subject: RE: The current bane of my existence

O agree liability scares me off of doing a lot of charity work. Farmer level electrician. Run main from pole, put pannel, circuits, run wires, outlets, switches, lights…
Inspector comes. “Who did wiring?” I say I did. “Well you used heavier wire then needed here, and here. I mentioned 250+ roll of 12 gauge was so much cheaper then shorter, less waste. I used excess for some lighting. Guy checked 4 outlets. “Looks good”
I used to do church, other places. @20 years back I had to stop. The professional shocked my wife on a failed GFI circuit in church to move light switch DIRECTLY next to sink in sacristy. He used multi strand wire in metal conduit. But copper hot wires touching metal. Clearly it was not grounded. I understand gfi not tripping as it was before.
Local veterans place had open house, fund raiser 6 years back. Power failed in old school gym they have set up lunch in. I skipped tour, found, repaired issues. They wanted to add my name to those helping. “Please don’t. You don't know my name, I looked about 20 with mid Eastern decent right? You will be calling the electrical firm that gives you a discount on Monday.” The risk is too high.
Church still askes. “Just do it some day, say nothing”. It’s easy stuff. But what if someone else damages, fixes something? Everyone knows I fix stuff. Sad.
