East of Broken Bow | I can tell a story about a guy who had an odd hydraulic brake set up on a tandem truck.
One person suggested to him to get matching axles from a salvage yard, along with the lines and controls to convert it over to air brakes (with new drums and shoes). The turnkey estimate for that job was $10K. Seemed too steep to spend $10,000 to properly convert over to air, so he decided to take it to a specialty shop that said they could fix the hydraulic brakes. I don't remember his whole story, but it was fixed for something like $6500 if I remember right, and less than 2 years later they put in another $3000 to fix it again. Wound up paying within $500 of an air brake conversion, and he still has hydraulic brakes. Last I heard truck was still going, but the parking brake was getting weak.
Not saying that would be the right thing to do, but maybe something to consider. | |
