I bet you’re way low on the 80-100 hrs. Don’t forget the other half of the equation of the mechanical aspect, I.e. getting all the leaks fixed first, etc. the last thing you want to do is tear apart a tractor after it has been perfectly painted.
Everyone wants a show condition paint job for a buzz bomb price.
Few realize the time and money involved in a #10 quality paint job. Pretty much anyone who has hired that kind of work done will never tell what the bill was.
I’d much rather have an original condition faded out tractor than a half donkey job.
BTW Dave excellent work and yes that is a #10 job.
Yes, when we paint one, we usually try and get all the mechanical stuff out of the way, then go use the tractor for 50 hours or so to make sure we're good. Last one we did was a G550 Moline, had the thing clear down to the transmission gears and back up from there.
You never know if it will start leaking later, but at least you tried. I couldn't tell you how many guys bring me antiques with fresh paint and we start fixing leaks and doing tune up, etc.
