Depends on a few factors. “Here” everybody and their brother is an angus bull breeder at the moment. Lots of sales with probably a $3500-4000 average.

I like average cows, which means I can use an average bull. I have no desire to set the cattle world on fire with top notch genetics ($$$$). I buy what catches my eye and has good enough specs. $3-3500 will usually get it done on an angus bull the past few years. Gave more for Herefords and limousines as they aren’t as common “here” and I don’t have the urge to travel 1000 miles to maybe or maybe not buy a bull.

Your bull should last 5-6 years. You can watch peak dot sale on internet and buy one. They take care of all the shipping. Lots headed to Montana from there sale last Friday.

I wouldn’t even qualify as a bad cattleman on my best day. I like looking at bulls in person. Seems like the girlfriends folks roll to new bulls by year 3 for various reasons. My budget for bulls is based on 100 calves sired. Weather I hit that consistently or not has yet to be seen.
