South Central MN | I could be wrong, but I don't think Xero forces you to take depreciation, even if you do set up a depreciation schedule. There's a specific "Run Depreciation" button in the Fixed Assets page. It appears that if you never click that, depreciation never accumulates.
Its entirely possible I don't understand how xero operates regarding depreciation or that I'm not understanding your concern, but you might be overthinking it. I just gave it a ballpark usefull life & ballpark salvage value and called it good.
