Like I said above, I remember the story well.   The farmer was bragging about not having to get a planter tractor and that the harvesting portion of the machines always wore out before the drive parts so he was maximizing efficiency.   Plus he didn't have to look back to see the planter.

I'm sure I remember it so well because I thought too it was the dumbest idea any farmer ever came up with.   And yes it was a new  or nearly new combine.
