Wisconsin | Yes, peat is dried and used for potting soil, or burned for energy in some places, that's why they want to suck it up, to only get the driest stuff off the top of the deposit. It's basically the same stuff that the Irish dug and dried as "turf".
Historically at least, there was Spagnum peat moss harvested in WI, that was the live plant raked up and dried. Peat moss can be thousands of years old plant matter, of all sorts. | |
