Kansas City area | Main thing is high smoke point, which Avocado oil and grape seed oil definitely have. The Blackstone griddle seasoning is supposedly a blend of a multitude of these. I used the Blackstone seasoning mix at first on mine because they included it with the purchase that I made. It worked fine, but I have kept avocado oil around since then and would just go that route if I had it to do over. None of these are super cheap, but I find avocado oil at a decent price at Aldi.
Main thing is thin layer, and burn it off real good. Do it at least 3 times. The suggestion of cooking bacon will help too, but i would still do the oil a couple times first. Onions is another good one to increase the seasoning while actually cooking.
Another tip, the edges dont initially burn in that good, have to "earn them" over time. I have seen folks use a propane torch to get more heat there but I haven't messed with it. I have a 4 burner and do feel like the output drops a bit with all 4 on high, if doing again I might do it 1/2 at a time to get a bit more heat output on those 2 burners. | |
