Wisconsin | Not only the cables, the battery can be tested, and indirectly the starter can be tested by voltage under load. For instance, start at the battery, with the key to crank, the battery will usually be relatively OK like 10v or higher, or not OK, like 8 or lower. If it's OK, check at the starter, if the starter is getting good voltage and not turning, then check the engine turns by hand, and then it's most likely internal to the starter. If the battery voltage is LOW, then the easiest is usually to swap a good battery and see if it changes, if a good battery drops too low then you suspect the starter again. Most start issues can be narrowed down by voltage testing under load. | |
