| I'm not disputing the need of these tools. It makes no difference the size of the farm. Soil compaction conditions around all the potholes and seasonal water courses are a large problem here for many producers. The problem in our slice of the world starts in the spring. Cold, wet, low ground. Fifteen years ago rent a VT to dry off said ground. No till farming was so popular here a lot of guys didn't have chisel plows or cultivators anymore, therefore rent VT. The top dried off just enough to drag air drill over and mud in soybeans. The ground never dried out underneath. Then run a roller over that and make a hard brick for the sun to bake. VT tools were back ordered due to high demand in those years. 10 years ago everyone owned some type of VT. 5 -10 years ago guys were seeing problems. Chisel plows are getting popular again in the fall. VT, still needed, still used, isn't the miracle tool it once was. Rollers are needed here, so are rock pickers. I hope this helps explain my repone to your original compaction question. I was by no means trying to ruffle any feathers. | |
