Subject: Kitchen knife set

I cut up the turkey with my wife's old chicago cultery knives this year, and I sharpened them up and they worked ok, but I'm thinking she might like a new set. Does anybody have a recommendation for a 'fancy' set of real kitchen cutlery in the $150-300 range? I see sets from $500-5000, these are going to be out of my price range, but I would like something a little nicer than the kitchenaide set we tried a few years ago, and I assume the 'gordon ramsay' and the 'bobby flay' sets are just cheap with big name$. I am not a chef nor even a cook, so I don't know what knives are good or necessary (all I know is I like a good little razor sharp pairing knife in the kitchen myself).

I'm too late for this year, but I actually enjoy making knives, and I have thought of making a few, but again, I don't know what shapes/profiles are most useful, and I don't think I trust myself to find a quality enough 'stainless' steel to live in the sink and dishwasher.

What says NAT?
